Jade Girl

Longnü, the fifteen-year-old daughter of the Dragon King, is set to become the Jade Princess and fulfill her divine duty in twenty-four hours. Desperate for one last adventure, she agrees to let her attendant Pearl disguise herself as Longnü for a day while she visits the human world. 

Longnü’s adventure turns perilous when she is captured by Toad, a shady stall-owner planning to sell her on the black market. She is rescued by Shancai, a young book-seller who loves mythical creatures, and they embark on a quest to return Longnü home.

During their journey, they discover that Pearl and her father Zongyi, the Dragon King’s Chief Administrator, orchestrated Longnü’s capture to allow Pearl to become the Jade Princess. Longnü and Shancai, aided by Longnü’s bumbling tutor Red Horse, navigate through various dangers across ancient China to evade their enemies.

Ultimately, Longnü returns to the Dragon Kingdom to find Pearl about to be crowned as Jade Princess. Her true identity is confirmed by her father, leading to the capture of Pearl and Zongyi. The Dragon King offers Longnü a choice between freedom and becoming Jade Princess. Having matured through her experiences, Longnü chooses to become Jade Princess, embracing her divine responsibilities. She tearfully bids farewell to her friends and ascends to the Heavenly Palace as Jade Princess.
